University Computer & Informatics Centre (UCIC) is a central facility to meet the computing requirements of all the students, research scholars, staff and faculty of the University. It was established in 1998 with around 50 computers and it has grown day by day and at present it has more than 150 computers including latest configuration servers & other peripherals. It caters to the needs of students, research scholars and faculty in the field of related to research, networking and software development. From its very inception, the Centre has effectively performed the pioneering task of building up data processing capabilities of many branches of the university and played a vital role in imparting intensive training to the staff of the university.  1.      Services ProvidedInternet Facility:

  • 2 MBPS Broadband lease line from BSNL
  • University has taken SCPC link @256 kbps bandwidth from ERNET India under UGC-INFONET programme.
  • All the teachers, research scholars and students use Internet facility.
  • UCIC has also extended Internet facility to the Departments of Management studies for more than 100 nodes. Computer Centre staff maintains the Internet and Networking facility itself.
  • On-Line journal facility is also available in UCIC under INFLIBNET-UGC Programme.

2.      Academic Programme:

  • There are 3 labs in Computer Centre.
  • One lab has been spared exclusively for Internet and research purposes. All teachers and research scholars of the University are provided all kind of help in their research activities.
  • Two-labs are meant for practical classes of the students of the University. All departments of the University are using Computer Centre for their respective courses.
  • There are five common courses (UCC-550, 551, 552, 553 & 554), whose practical classes are conducted in UCIC.

3.      Servers and Network

All systems are linked by a Local Area Network. There are four servers (Two proxy, One Prowess and One Web server) that function round the clock in the Centre, providing various services to the university: 

  • A LINUX server provides web services.

  • HP/ACER/IBM Windows 2003 servers provide Internet services.

4.  Hardware Maintenance Cell

UCIC has a Hardware Maintenance Cell with an objective to provide support to existing hardware available in the University. Cell is providing on-site maintenance facility to all branches/departments of the university.

5. Software Development Cell:

UCIC is maintaining a software development cell. The objective of the cell is to design new application software and support for existing software of various branches/departments. UCIC is one of the Participating Institutes (PIs) for Web-based Online State level counseling and examination for various courses BE/B.Tech/MBA/MCA and B.Pharmacy. It provides Internet facility and guidance to the admission seekers in On-line counseling for various courses.

6. University Website  

The Website of the university has been indigenously designed and is being maintained by the Computer Centre. The site is continuously updated to cover all day-to-day activities. To provide better access to the users, the Centre is planning to make it a dynamic website. The URL (address) of the university website is http://www.gju.ernet.in

7. EDUSAT

The UCIC has also installed the EDUSAT (the Education Satellite) facility, a powerful communication tool for emulating virtual classroom in an effective manner. This facility is very helpful to faculty members to prepare computer aided teaching/learning materials for quality education. The same satellite transmission facility is provided to the students to attend lecturers and obtain study material from transmission sites like IGNOU, UGC, CEIT, CEC & AICTE.

8. Workshop/Training programmes

Training is one of the main activities of the Centre. It has become a regular feature of UCIC. From the last five years, UCIC has been continuously organizing training programme on computer awareness for the employees of the university.

9. Working Hours.

Computer Centre remains open for 10 hours daily from 09.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs.
